PEARLAND PARKS & RECREATION: SPECIAL EVENTS: LET FREEDOM SING TALENT SEARCH
Pearland Parks & Recreation announces its 7th annual "Let Freedom Sing" talent search, a singing competition to find the two most talented vocal performers in Pearland. The top two singers will be selected to perform the National Anthem and God Bless America at the city-wide July 4th Celebration of Freedom. There are separate categories for adult and youth competitors.
A panel of judges will select the eight finalists who will perform each week during Summerfest, the Pearland Parks & Recreation Department's summer concert series held every Friday during May and June in Southdown Park (2150 Coutryplace Parkway) from 7 to 9 p.m.
One winner from each of the following categories will sing at the city's July 4th Celebration of Freedom:
- The National Anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner" - Adults (ages 15 and up)
- "God Bless America - Youth (ages 8 to 14)

The winners from the April 20 competition at Pearland Town Center are:
Youth (ages 8 to 14) - Performed "God Bless America" Sarah Jade Stowers Virginia Cooper Joan Cooper Kayla Cooper
Adults (ages 15 and up) - Performed "The Star-Spangled Banner" Misty Howell (singing at Summerfest May 24) Tarin Criddle (singing at Summerfest May 17) Shilpa Sadagopan (singing at Summerfest June 21) Erika Perry (singing at Summerfest May 3)

Judges for the April 20 competition were last year's winner of Let Freedom Sing, Katrina Joseph, Ian Tregre of Karaoke 4 Kids/Celebration Karaoke, Ron Solomon of Kids' Backporch Productions and Richard Graber of the Houston Art Alliance.
